Lykke Li is one of our favorite artists. The video for ‘Sadness is a Blessing’ has so much: editorial inspiration, a great dress, hair and extras + Stellan Skarsgård. Also her line in this song “sadness is my boyfriend” is one of the all time greats.
Yesterday we shot a short-film preview of The Water Street Project, an 11 day temporary art exhibition organized by No Kings Collective. The film features our friend Kelly Towles, an exceptionally prodigious Washington DC muralist and street artist. Watch the film to see Kelly create his exterior mural and get a glimpse of some of the other installations in this must-attend show.
Launch day is April 19th but the opening party is Friday, April 20th at 8PM - this will be one of the best art events of the Spring/Summer, just as Submerge was last year - see you there!
We travelled to Ocean City, MD with Carlis Alejandra Sanchez and Katya Ananieva of Spicy Candy DC to photograph and film a lookbook for South Moon Under. Carlis and Katya developed the concept for this film and styled the looks. The idea was to return to the roots of South Moon Under, a retail chain that first began as a surf shop in Ocean City. Everyone associated with this video braved the cold and extremely early wakeup times to make this happen. The result is a film that we feel captures the spirit of the collaboration. Enjoy!
Our third and final preview video in a series of videos we made about Spicy Candy DC’s collaboration with South Moon Under. This is just a short tease for the full-length video that will be released on April 2nd, along with the official lookbook photos.
Don’t miss the lookbook release party hosted by Dani Stahl on April 12th!
Here is our second in a series of videos we made about Spicy Candy DC’s collaboration with South Moon Under. This is just a short tease for the full-length video that will be released on April 2nd, along with the official lookbook photos.
Oh! Make sure you don’t miss the lookbook release party hosted by Dani Stahl on April 12th.
A short street style video to accompany our outfit photos. Filmed at Meridian House.
What I’m wearing:
Zara jacket and clutch, Bensoni shirt, GAP pants and Juan Antonio Lopez shoes
I first met Kimee Brown at a DC fashion/art show in a warehouse last summer. I loved what she was wearing: a Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s t-shirt before it was released to the public. Since then, Kimee has never looked the same twice; her diverse, eclectic, and thoughtful style is a testament to her effervescent personality.
When she approached me a few weeks ago to create a short film to commemorate the online and social media launch of neon V, I was immediately excited. Neon V is a magazine founded by five women, three of which I was already well acquainted with: Kimee, Stephanie Mills and Michelle German, plus Tanekeya Word and Carmela Wingfield. I love taking photographs of Stephanie because she is incredibly photogenic, creative and positive. Michelle, has always surprised and delighted with her fashion, and most notably with her makeup.
This film was shot by me in one night last week and is based on a concept developed by the ladies of neon V. I had so much fun scouting locations and during filming. These ladies broke into spontaneous coordinated song and/or dance numerous times and generally pervaded the entire undertaking with positivity and love. It shows in the end result: this is a film that I am very proud of. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
You can find neon V magazine’s website HERE.
We have collaborated quite a bit with the ladies of Spicy Candy DC. Some of our collaborations you have seen, others are not yet public. Today we are excited to announce another one of our Spicy Candy partnerships: This weekend we are travelling to Ocean City, MD where we will be photographing and filming Carlis and Katya for a South Moon Under look book.
We commend South Moon Under for taking part in this exciting next step in the DC style blogger evolution and for giving Spicy Candy and us the latitude to realize our own creative vision.
We welcome you to follow along with us and Spicy Candy DC on Twitter this weekend for behind-the-scenes updates.

For the new year I wanted to try something different: video street style. The Kogod Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery is one of my absolute favorite places in Washington DC. Whenever I feel stressed out or uninspired, I come here and meditate on the surroundings.
What I’m wearing:
Silence + Noise leather jacket, Christopher Deane dress (from Muléh), Old Navy sweater, GAP belt & boots, and Chanel Rouge Allure 14 Passion lipstick
