A Washington, DC Fashion Blog + Food, Travel, Lifestyle and Culture

Street Style at The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery

For the new year I wanted to try something different: video street style. The Kogod Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery is one of my absolute favorite places in Washington DC. Whenever I feel stressed out or uninspired, I come here and meditate on the surroundings.

What I’m wearing:
Silence + Noise leather jacket, Christopher Deane dress (from Muléh), Old Navy sweater, GAP belt & boots, and Chanel Rouge Allure 14 Passion lipstick

CapFABB 1 Year Anniversary Celebration

Life without CapFABB in Washington DC is a distant memory. The one year anniversary party was a surprise because it felt like so much time had passed since we attended our first CapFABB event. I suppose DC style is now aging in dog years: as a group we have come light years from where we were just one year ago and CapFABB deserves considerable credit.

This event, sponsored by flower service H.BLOOM, and hosted by Cities Restaurant & Lounge was the most enjoyable event to datefas. Much of the fun should be attributed to the lethal (to fashion bloggers) combination of excellent cocktails, a make-your-own-arrangement flower bar, and a photo booth with instant print photos. Happy anniversary CapFABB!

Fashionisto Diaries - the best NYFW coverage from a DC blog

Far and away the best New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 coverage in the DC blogosphere is from Fashionisto Diaries. Excellent photos, timely/expansive coverage, and a few behind the scenes touches, this blog would be impressive if the story ended there, but it does not: Fashionisto Diaries is run by Ryan Charchian, a high school senior living in the DC suburbs; The photos are by Lauren Kristin, a teenage photo artist also living in the DC area. The level of talent, organization and commitment displayed by both is inspiring. Incidentally, Lauren Kristin’s portfolio of photo art may be even more impressive, displaying photographic talent and skill of the highest level.

We urge you to view Lauren’s photos below, peruse the NYFW coverage in Fashionisto Diaries and revel in the haunting beauty of Lauren photographs on her personal website and Flickr. The future is bright!

Tarts by Tarts at Treasury Valentine’s Event

Tart of Gold was a mouth watering event from a vintage and food standpoint. Treasury is always a great visit because they do such an excellent job of arranging and styling their merchandise. We are especially taken with their accessories and never fail to make at least one purchase on every visit (including this one).

The baking duo of Tarts by Tarts should probably add the tagline ‘ridiculously photogenic baked goods’ to their website. The pictures we took definitely triggered a Pavlovian response while we edited them. Luckily we ordered their Simple Apple Tart at the event, and are happy (sad?) to report that we liked it so much most of it did not make it to Valentine’s Day.

Spicy Candy DC in Elle

We were very happy to learn that our friends Spicy Candy DC had their photos featured in Elle, along with the also excellent Linda of Nom Nom Bling Bling. The article is about style around America, and DC has its own section.

We hope next time Elle mentions the edgy but truly creative H Street NE and Bloomingdale neighborhoods (instead of just Georgetown and 14th Street NW) and all the amazing changes that are happening in DC.

Take a look:
