Céline Spring/Resort 2012 Trunk Show at Hu’s Wear

Not many fashion houses are able to instill a frenzied cult following quite like the French house of Céline. The beauty is in the simplicity, craftsmanship, and uber-chic execution – a combination that ensures covet-ability and emptied-out boutiques. All orchestrated by the talented Phoebe Philo.

Last weekend we had the opportunity to see the Céline Spring/Resort 2012 trunk show at Hu’s Wear. I swooned over the impeccably constructed clothes as Dwayne showed me all the marvelous little details: delicately sewn pleats, laser-printed fabrics, and sorbet colors. Despite my love for the clothes, I gravitated towards the bags; Especially the colorful Trapeze bag, its royal-blue flap being one of my favorite colors.

Céline’s incredibly desireable Trapeze bag - I was happy it looked so harmonious accompanying my tiger-orange Proenza Schouler jacket that I bought at Hu’s Wear:

Oversized-floral print suit jacket, a refreshing departure from Phoebe’s minimalist style - we love it paired with this asymmetric-pleated blouse:

La Petite Marmoset Super Mercado Lookbook April 2012

La Petite Marmoset Super Mercado lookbook April 2012

The craziest ideas are typically hatched when we sit down to eat with Katherine Martinez of La Petite Marmoset Vintage. Last time it was glitter. This time we dreamed up the idea of a photo shoot in a Latin supermarket. Leave it to Katherine to email us days later with “I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I decided to schedule a mini shoot…. Let me know if you are interested!” Needless to say we said yes.

La Petite Marmoset 1 Year Anniversary Party

The LPM 1 Year Anniversary Party (held at Tabaq on U Street) felt like a family reunion. That is if all your relatives were really creative amazing dressers that also brought their stylish friends to the party. There were already plenty of crazy memories to talk about, remember that photo shoot on H Street NE?!

We met Katherine Martinez, the founder of La Petite Marmoset, last October - just as she was ramping up her reconstructed vintage business. Now a few months later she has a business partner and co-creative director in Ashley Thomas (possibly the sweetest person to ever walk the earth), a pack of beautiful models that enthusiastically wear her clothes, and adoring fans. Still this is only the beginning; LPM just launched their new website LaPetiteMarmoset.com. We look forward to another year of La Petite Marmoset and are excited for future collaborations!

Congratulations to Katherine Martinez and Ashley Thomas of LPM for 1 year in business!

It’s not an LPM party unless there’s cupcakes:

Jason Wu for Target

The Jason Wu for Target Collection has classic elements that would go well with vintages pieces. I could also see them given some edge, like the Pleated Skirt in Navy Floral worn with a brown distressed leather bomber jacket. The Sheer Blouse in White with Black Ribbon wouldn’t look out of place on Alexa Chung. Pops of bright color are still welcome to me, like the Pointelle Sweater in Red; I know we are coming out of the color-blocking trend but I still haven’t tired of those brights.

Givenchy Pre Fall 2012

The Givenchy Pre Fall 2012 look book really stood out to us. We love how the composition of the photography echos the silhouettes of the clothing: structured, upright and strong. Our favorite element is the boots, with their slightly slouchy shell; they look like uptown elegant riding boots. Other highlights: asymmetric pants, giant bows, pops of color and prints.

Marni at H&M

I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements.
- Consuelo Castiglioni

Of all the designer collaborations H&M has done, this one is the most exciting. Marni has always made elegant versatile clothes for the intellectual creative person; the kind of person that might daydream about the complex relationship between color and pattern (other people do that besides us right?).

We are still excited by the color trend that has been going on for awhile now and this collection adds pattern and keeps that part of us satisfied. Best of all the collection is for both men and women. Available from March 8, 2012, this collection should be a great addition to the coming Spring!

The video above contains the best glimpses of the line. The day-glow green/yellow necklace is enticing…

We love the piled pattern books and hanging swatches in the Marni studio from the press shot - also we want to make Consuelo’s pants into pillows and drapes:

Balenciaga Ready to Wear - Spring/Summer 2012. The shorts and belts create an exaggerated silhouette that we love and the shoes are wild (which seems to be an industry-wide theme this season). The collection has a retro-futuristic 70’s vibe.
