New Year’s Eve can be a hectic and expensive outing. Some of my favorite NYE memories are with friends and family cooking, dancing, and sharing childhood stories. My mom and I love to cook, and this year for NYE, we are making some of our favorite recipes of the year (all of them are gluten free). Here is our NYE menu with links to the recipes:
1. Blood Orange Gin Sparkler with Rosemary
2. Paprika Deviled Eggs
3. Crudo on the Half Shell
4. Wild-Boar Bites (I use these crackers instead of bread)
5. Grilled Trout with Parsley, Dill and Lemon
6. Chocolate-Coconut Mousse

Champagne and Gold

I posted about the Paula Mendoza Trunk Show at Muleh on the CultureQueu a few days ago because I knew her jewelry would be beautiful and it would be loads of fun, but I didn’t think it would be champagne-and-after-party fun, and the jewelry was even prettier in person, which kept me pretty busy, not to mention all the gorgeous clothes at the store - so much going on that I almost forgot to take pictures :O And sorry for the pixelated images, my camera was not behaving, it’s temperamental in the rain.

One of my favorite rings from her collection (Paula wore a very similar one on her hand… WOW… gorgeous)

Paula’s dress from the back, the colors were stunning in person

Her outfit looked killer in person, the super skinny jeans and super plunging shirt looked marvelously sophisticated due to the addition of her simple heels, bag and hair.

Pyrotechnics

The 4th of July party I went to last night was at this apartment downtown with an amazing view of DC. Since not many apartments buildings are near all the museums and monuments, it’s rare to see one that looks out onto them, a very unique and beautiful site indeed.

And of course the reason we were there - the fireworks - my favorite part of the Summer.

Newseum in Pink

One of my good friends and lab-mates was invited to the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure Eve of Race Event which took place last evening, and he brought me as his guest. Last year the foundation invested $3.3 million into breast cancer and health programs in the D.C. area and since our lab’s primary search focus is breast cancer we were very delighted to be a part of this great and very energizing event.

The pink carpet

The event took place at the Newseum, my favorite museum in the city (more about it on a separate post). Among the breast cancer advocates/celebrities present were “Sex and the City“‘s Cynthia Nixon (who is gorgeous and very slim in person), “Desperate Housewives”’ Ricardo Chavira (I very shyly took a picture with him) and movie star Gabrielle Union (my friend not shyly at all took a picture with her).

Food and Flowers

The Newseum was “passionately pink” for the evening - pink cocktails, pink tables, pink desserts, pink carpets - and the party was catered by Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant (the food was gorgeous and delicious).

The event was wonderful and every detail was perfectly executed - Cynthia Nixon and Nancy G. Brinker (the founder of the organization) gave very inspiring and moving speeches about their experience with breast cancer and about the future of treatments and prevention for the disease. Next year we are planning to put a team together to participate in the race and volunteer at the different events- wanna join us?
