La Petite Marmoset Super Mercado Lookbook April 2012

La Petite Marmoset Super Mercado lookbook April 2012

The craziest ideas are typically hatched when we sit down to eat with Katherine Martinez of La Petite Marmoset Vintage. Last time it was glitter. This time we dreamed up the idea of a photo shoot in a Latin supermarket. Leave it to Katherine to email us days later with “I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I decided to schedule a mini shoot…. Let me know if you are interested!” Needless to say we said yes.

The President Wears Prada for Northern Virginia Magazine

Way back in January we photographed a feature for Northern Virginia Magazine. The photo shoot was planned with a Spring theme in mind, which lead us to choose a farm near Middleburg, Virginia as the setting. We were counting on evergreen trees and a so-far extremely mild winter to aid us in our simulation of Spring. In true chaotic photo shoot fashion, the only day of snow accumulation this winter occurred on the day of the shoot. So we improvised, threw the plan out the window, and shot indoors; it worked out great!

The article is on bloggers with ties to Northern Virginia, featuring Spicy Candy DC, DC Alejandra, La Petite Marmoset, La Belle Vie Ashley, and The President Wears Prada. We had a great time photographing some of our best style blogger friends. Also much thanks goes out to the behind-the-scenes photographer: Sebastian Marin, who served double duty as my assistant for the photo shoot.

Buy the April issue of Northern Virginia Magazine to see the full shoot and read interviews with each of the bloggers (on newsstands now!), it really is an enormous feature!

La Petite Marmoset 1 Year Anniversary Party

The LPM 1 Year Anniversary Party (held at Tabaq on U Street) felt like a family reunion. That is if all your relatives were really creative amazing dressers that also brought their stylish friends to the party. There were already plenty of crazy memories to talk about, remember that photo shoot on H Street NE?!

We met Katherine Martinez, the founder of La Petite Marmoset, last October - just as she was ramping up her reconstructed vintage business. Now a few months later she has a business partner and co-creative director in Ashley Thomas (possibly the sweetest person to ever walk the earth), a pack of beautiful models that enthusiastically wear her clothes, and adoring fans. Still this is only the beginning; LPM just launched their new website LaPetiteMarmoset.com. We look forward to another year of La Petite Marmoset and are excited for future collaborations!

Congratulations to Katherine Martinez and Ashley Thomas of LPM for 1 year in business!

It’s not an LPM party unless there’s cupcakes:

CapFABB Meetup at Madewell

Being a fashion blogger can be a lonely and discouraging hobby. You take pictures of yourself, agonize over logos, social media, etc and then wonder if anyone is actually reading. Unless you live in or near DC… Then you have CapFABB, where you can attend one meetup and suddenly have 50 like-minded friends.

While we have attended enough of these to know many of the attendees, we always find a surprise at each event. Elizabeth and Lacey do a great job organizing these events and everyone else does a great job of being social and supportive. This time was no different.

Our pictures:

Spicy Candy DC 2 Year Anniversary Brunch

Spicy Candy DC’s two year anniversary brunch was a testament to Carlis and Katya’s infectious energy. The long dining table in the basement of El Centro was filled with some of DC’s most successful fashion bloggers, magazine editors and clothing store owners. We find it as no surprise that everyone wants to be around them.

The brunch also represented the formal launch of Spicy Candy DC’s new look. Now slick and sophisticated, the ladies are even better prepared to tackle their growing list of collaborations. If you own a fashion business in DC, you should probably contact them.

Congratulations Spicy Candy DC you deserve your success!

La Petite Marmoset Holiday Lookbook 2011

When Katherine, of La Petite Marmoset Vintage, casually asked us at a party if we were interested in photographing the LPM holiday lookbook, we didn’t realize how crazy it would be. Crazy in a good way: 4 models, 4 locations, 4 wardrobe changes; all in one evening. The concept for this shoot was devised by Katherine and the girls from Spicy Candy DC, who envisioned four best friends out for a night of fun during the holidays in one of our favorite DC neighborhoods: the H Street/Atlas District, visiting four great spots: the Atlas Theater, H Street Country Club, Little Miss Whiskey’s, and Dangerously Delicious Pies

We worked with a wonderful team of people and are delighted with the results (everyone is listed at the end of this post). The launch party is this Thursday Dec 8th ( 7pm to 9pm) at Violet Boutique

This lookbook is only the beginning: the official lookbook video is HERE and you can view behind the scenes and outtakes HERE. In addition more outtakes can be found on our collaborator’s blogs: La Petite Marmoset and Spicy Candy DC.

Refinery 29 Washington DC Launch party at Madewell

It’s been a transformative year for Washington DC’s creative side - this week we added another notch to our belt with the launch of the Refinery 29 DC edition led by no other than the uber stylish and creative Holly Thomas. DC’s most fashionable and friendly crowd gathered tonight for the official launch party at Madewell in Georgetown. A friend and I looked at each other marveling at all the fashionable attendees passing by and asked “are we really in DC?.” Alas we were, and are so excited to be at the forefront of its transformation.

Here are a few of our pictures from the evening:
