A Washington, DC Fashion Blog + Food, Travel, Lifestyle and Culture

CapFABB Meetup at Madewell

Being a fashion blogger can be a lonely and discouraging hobby. You take pictures of yourself, agonize over logos, social media, etc and then wonder if anyone is actually reading. Unless you live in or near DC… Then you have CapFABB, where you can attend one meetup and suddenly have 50 like-minded friends.

While we have attended enough of these to know many of the attendees, we always find a surprise at each event. Elizabeth and Lacey do a great job organizing these events and everyone else does a great job of being social and supportive. This time was no different.

We loved the dramatic beachy dreaminess of Part I, but were absolutely slack-jawed by the sexy-luxurious-intimacy of Part II. If you love the visual arts do yourself a favor and click through to view the amazingness.

Jessica Biales Jewelry Trunk Show at Hu’s Wear

This past Sunday we had the pleasure of meeting Jessica Biales at the Hu’s Wear trunk show for her eponymous jewelry line. A lifelong New Yorker, Jessica initially worked in law (in which she has a degree), before branching out into more creative pursuits after the birth of her first child. Along with jewelry design she also creates custom photo collage stationary and art. Much of her jewelry has an organic look; a deliberate product of the fact that she carves her jewelry moulds from wax with her own hands. The jewelry itself is made from 18K gold and sterling silver, some pieces are set with precious stones such as diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The line as a whole feels deeply personal, an attribute enhanced by the presence of her family including her young children at the event.

Here are our pictures:

We love a Birkin bag even more when it’s toted by a stylish man. Howard’s gold watch & Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses add a super cool touch.

Bright, colorful jewelry with ethnic touches complete Howard Lee’s look (and look great against his beige Birkin Bag).

Uhhh… where do we start? What you see above is 150,000 years old. Yes, from the second to last ice age. This stacked maple wood ring is topped with ivory from the husks of a Blue Wooly Mammoth, you might remember him from your childhood dinosaur books. He is now extinct. This ivory (the rarest and finest of all the fossils) was found buried in the North Sea. If that wasn’t exotic enough, there is also a black diamond embedded in the ivory. And, unlike the composite metal ring you last purchased, this ring will actually appreciate in value due to the scarcity of this ivory, one of the finest in the world. Now available for purchase at Stick & Stones, the digital home to its designers, Stephan Alexander and Benjamin Posin.
