Céline Spring/Resort 2012 Trunk Show at Hu’s Wear

Not many fashion houses are able to instill a frenzied cult following quite like the French house of Céline. The beauty is in the simplicity, craftsmanship, and uber-chic execution – a combination that ensures covet-ability and emptied-out boutiques. All orchestrated by the talented Phoebe Philo.

Last weekend we had the opportunity to see the Céline Spring/Resort 2012 trunk show at Hu’s Wear. I swooned over the impeccably constructed clothes as Dwayne showed me all the marvelous little details: delicately sewn pleats, laser-printed fabrics, and sorbet colors. Despite my love for the clothes, I gravitated towards the bags; Especially the colorful Trapeze bag, its royal-blue flap being one of my favorite colors.

Céline’s incredibly desireable Trapeze bag - I was happy it looked so harmonious accompanying my tiger-orange Proenza Schouler jacket that I bought at Hu’s Wear:

Yigal Azrouël Spring 2012 Preview at Hu’s Wear

Effortlessly chic are the first words that come to mind when I think of Yigal Azrouël’s designs. The strategically placed colors, draping, and silhouettes he’s become known for are the same ones that made me a fan of his line a few years ago. Fittingly, I smiled with glee when I was invited to preview his Spring 2012 collection and get a chance to chat with him at Hu’s Wear.

Here are our pictures including some of the thoughts Yigal shared with me when showing me his clothes:

Yigal talked excitedly about his collaborations with various artists and the opening of his CUT25 flagship store in Soho, home to his latest line aimed at a younger consumer and designed by Dror:

Yigal draped his cropped blazer over my shoulders (a look he loves). It was one of my favorite pieces!:

We have long admired the sleek simplistic yet elegant and utilitarian designs of Yigal Azrouël. The opportunity to meet the Israeli-born (but NYC based) designer and see designs from his Spring 2012 collection can’t be missed. Even better, this is happening in the chic environs of Hu’s Wear, one of our favorite stores in Washington DC.

Hosted by Kelly Doolan and Fashion Washington, the Yigal Azrouël Personal Appearance and Spring 2012 Collection Preview is tonight, April 19th from 6 to 9 PM. A portion of the evening’s sales will benefit Only Make Believe.

Jessica Biales Jewelry Trunk Show at Hu’s Wear

This past Sunday we had the pleasure of meeting Jessica Biales at the Hu’s Wear trunk show for her eponymous jewelry line. A lifelong New Yorker, Jessica initially worked in law (in which she has a degree), before branching out into more creative pursuits after the birth of her first child. Along with jewelry design she also creates custom photo collage stationary and art. Much of her jewelry has an organic look; a deliberate product of the fact that she carves her jewelry moulds from wax with her own hands. The jewelry itself is made from 18K gold and sterling silver, some pieces are set with precious stones such as diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The line as a whole feels deeply personal, an attribute enhanced by the presence of her family including her young children at the event.

Michael Angel at Hu’s Wear

Michael Angel is one of the pioneers of using digital silk-screened prints in fashion - his collections during NY fashion week are always a step ahead of the trends and are coveted by some of fashion’s chicest women (Sarah Jessica Parker & the Olson twins are a few of his many fans). Last night we saw an early preview of his Resort and Spring 2012 collections, as well as some archival fabrics and designs at Hu’s Wear. Michael’s personality is as vibrant as his prints and he shared with us a few details of his creative process and journey in fashion. To see these very special pieces, head over to Hu’s Wear this weekend.

Here are the photos we took at the preview:

Michael started his career as a print artist and moved to NYC to pursue his dream of translating his prints into garments. This is a dress from his Resort 2012 collection:

This silk-screened top was one of my favorites for it’s simplicity:

The print on this dress stood out - a beautiful gradation of pinks, reds, and dark blues:

This dress drew gasps when the model walked into the room - the cascading draping combined with the bright blue print was a feast for the eyes:

This futuristic design is an example of the range and flexibility his clothes - stunning:

Michael was excited about the advances in screen printing technology, allowing him to print on materials other than silk:

His Spring 2012 collection was inspired by ancient Egypt and featured sports-wear-inspired styles:

You could buy his clothes and hang them as art:

Michael Angel and I had a great chat about his inspirations - his exotic background (Egyptian, Italian, Australian) give him plenty to choose from. We look forward to showing him around DC next time he’s in town!
