Sports Wear

If you liked the Alexander Wang Spring 2010 runway show as much as I did, you might be excitedly waiting to get your hands on some of his accessories, like the gorgeous and versatile  Donna Hobo bag or any of his studded items.  Now, one of my favorite online stores OTTE is taking pre-orders plus giving you 10% off for a limited time. I’ll take all of them please.

American Sports

Fall Fashion week is by far my favorite, but every year there is a Spring show that makes me bite my tongue and revives my hope for warm-weather clothes.  This year is it was Alexander Wang. I loved EVERYTHING about his show. His ability to take an unfashionable American pastime and use its quirks and details to create an edgy, fun and novel show is incredible so refreshing. I loved the athletic socks paired with tasseled loafers. I loved his impeccable camel colored motorcycle jacket. I loved the leather details on his sweatshirt dresses. I loved the entire sporty pin-up look. Surprisingly, I think many of these items should translate well to real-life, especially his outerwear - which will also transition easily to Fall. I can’t wait to see these in person.

GAP Design Editions

I stopped by the GAP this weekend to see their Design Editions - A limited collection that this time around is inspired by the classic Gap khaki designed by Alexander Wang, Vena Cava, and Albertus Swanepoel. The Vena Cava dresses where cute, I specially liked the zip dress with a tribal design on the bottom. Swanepoel designed hats - I was looking forward to his fedora with a feather trim. But I didn’t really love it, the feathers didn’t translate that well to the final product.

My favorite item from the collection by far was Alexander Wang’s khahi motorcycle jacket, which seems to be sold out online with only a few remaining at the store (luckily they had my size). The jacket was incredibly true to Wang’s design aesthetic -edgy, modern, one-of-a-kind. It’s also constructed extremely well, and is weighted enough to be used in cooler months.

He also designed a double breasted jacket, the proportions look more interesting in person than online, I also liked the zipper pockets. I tried on his pleated shorts and wasn’t a big fan of the proportions. His high-waist kakhis looked promising on the rack, but I wish they had been slouchier, or skinnier. I didn’t love the middle-of-the-road proportion to the legs. But they’re almost sold out online, so I guess everyone else loved them!

At Work in NYC

We found Alexander Wang’s studio in NYC photographed at The Selby and we sent it to our in-house architecture/design expert for his meticulous opinion - This is what he likes:

The dark-stained matte floors:

His defined point of view and his consistency with it throughout all aesthetics aspects of his life:

The logical agreement of all his pieces (black couch, black table, black chair, black clothing racks, black ceiling lights + only gold accents). The essential strong contrast from all those dark objects and the prevalent white everywhere else.

His attention to detail, his exquisite objects:

His understanding of drama in space:

I personally love the intrigue of the space, the congruity of the design, and the incredible energy that each object seems to impart into the room. I think all these aspects make the studio captivating even to people whose design preference may be very different from his.
