Vieques is everything you imagine a virgin island would be, and somehow it’s even more – more beautiful, more fantastical, more unforgettable
Building excitement as we fly into Vieques in a tiny antique plane of questionable stability – this time I wasn’t as scared as the first time!

A silver sky

Arriving at the W Hotel – one of the many paths that lead to the ocean

A friendly wild horse following us around for treats

My first day lounging in one of my favorite daybeds by Patricia Urquiola

Despite my mom’s broken toe, my adventurous family decided to go on a 1-hour-long hike to explore an abandoned lighthouse
My uncle provided entertainment via his portable ipod boombox carried in his bookbag

We arrived at the mouth of a cave that sprayed cool mist high into the air

Finally! The Puerto Ferro Light in all its crumbling splendor!

My brothers found an entrance to explore inside the lighthouse

The view from the top (we climbed some very precarious stairs and out a hole in the ceiling to get up there)

From there, we spotted a private beach! Can you see my brother?

The view from the back of our Jeep – headed on another adventure

My first day at the pool wearing a Marc Jacobs bikini

Walking around one of the highest hills on the island

A majestic view of the Esperanza islands and the Caribbean sea

My aunts and I spent all day at this pool

Contemplating the view wearing an American Apparel bandeau bikini top

My favorite part of every evening

My brothers and I watching the sky on fire

One of our last nights sitting by the fire pit drinking mojitos at the W Hotel

Our love for Vieques is well documented – and still, it’s unsurprisingly easy to fall more and more in love with it after each trip. The untamed wildness of the island matches the equality untamed adventurous spirit of my family (my 60-year-old aunt went island hoping on a boogie board!). We can’t wait to hop a tiny suspect plane, tumble in the sand, and fight mosquitoes to be there again…
