Patent Glass

Vogued out!!!'s comment on my Kalorama post re-sparked my currently dormant obsession for Marni shoes. I have always loved the eccentricity of them, their ability to transform the simplest outfit with their quality of eclectic statement pieces. Consuelo Castiglioni's designs have spawned many cruder replicas (Aldo, Nine West) which I refuse to buy, for the same reason that I won't buy anything copying Phillip Lim's rosettes, not so much that I'm against stores having clothes & shoes inspired by someone else's design but because I feel like I'm in a relationship with Consuelo & Phillip and I'm really greedy but I'm loyal so I either spend the $800, wait until someone else spends it :) or get them two seasons later on ebay for a fraction of the price. These are my current favorites.

Yelp Spring Fling Party - Our Outfits

Of course you would expect to wear spring dresses to a spring fling, but our spring dresses are first of all way too short which would be ok if it was warm, but it wasn't so this is what we ended up wearing:

Dress: Jovovich-Hawk for Target
Biker Jacket: H&M
Shoes: Abaete for Payless

Bomber Jacket: Zara
Jeans: Levis 504
Shoes: Juan Antonio Lopez
Bag: Vintage

By the way I've decided to start wearing pointy toe shoes again because I've noticed that the round-toe thick heels have made their way to ... yes... you guess it... bars in the suburbs (not that I would know personally but I've heard). Plus these are one of my favorite shoes of all times, so much actually that I have two pairs :) The craftsmanship is amazing, and all the details... I'll try to take some more pictures of them to show you how awesome they are.

Cri de Coeur

I'm not posting these shoes because they're vegan, because I'm not vegan, I love eating animals :) ok that sounded cruel, back to the shoes... I'm posting them because I really like the modern Grecian look to them - the colors, the thick straps, their low profile, and...the designer, Gina Ferraraccio, is originally from Washington DC.

Sierra - Love the heel, love the different color elastic band

Kate - Love the low profile, love the presence of the straps, love the electricity of the blue.

Adrina - I almost love this one, I'm crazy about its gladiator look, I wish the heel was higher and narrower, but I might love it in person.

What rain?

She said she got dressed in a hurry and picked up these clothes off the floor.... liar. I guess it's not as easy for everyone to be this cute.

Napoleon Cafe

Napoleon Bistro & Lounge

1847 Columbia Rd NW
Washington, DC 20050
Neighborhood: Adams Morgan
(202) 299-9630

Let's not call this a French restaurant, because it pales in comparison to real French food - now let's move on and I'll review this as a .... Cafe.
If you've been to Cafe Bonaparte I think you know what to expect with Napoleon, the food won't be fantastic, the service won't be consistent, but somehow the atmosphere always manages to be cool. I had brunch there this past weekend, on the outdoor patio, and as expected, the food was ok, the service was dysfunctional, but the patio was great (see my pictures), although it could use some outdoor umbrellas, and don't sit on the cushion on your chair, it's uncomfortable, put it on your back, worlds different.

Here is what I eat when I go there:
The Waffle
The Normandy
Sparkling apple cider

So, in other words, you'll enjoy Napoleon if you take it for what it is. Passable brunch food, great outdoor seating, cool atmosphere, good coffee.

On the way to Majorca to live for 3 months... yes?

Zadig & Voltaire

Wizards vs. Cavaliers Playoff Game

I haven't been to a Wizards game all season, for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I'm spoiled and I won't go to any sports event unless I am sitting in box seats, trust me, once you've been to the top, it's impossible to downgrade. So, my friends invited me to their box, it was sooo much fun, Wizards lost, but it was a close game and I got to see Lebron James play and he is definitely NOT overrated - he is fantastic.

Kalorama Heights

I spent my morning walking around the city taking pictures of my favorite DC mansions, yeah, I walked in those shoes...far distances, they are actually crazy comfortable. I have all these vintage mens belts that are too long to go around once and not long enough to go around twice, and I finally found an antidote to their spacial inadequacy, latch them together!!

Lure me In

I have lived in gladiator sandals for the past two Summers , and lately I've been loving their evolution versions, into pumps, platforms, boots, etc. I just found these, more of a fisherman-sandal descendant, but I love them, I could see myself wearing them obsessively, love that the ankle strap is a different color. I haven't found a place to buy them online yet, but I will :)

Invisible Walls

The dress on my "Dreams and Fantasies" post reminded me of this art exhibit I went to almost exactly 1 year ago at Douz and Mille by a Chilean-born artist - "Tomás Rivas: Left to My Own Devices. " I remember a similar feeling of enchantment when I saw his work, the ghostly French Beaux-Arts columns he carved into the walls, the fragile crumbling rosettes - all impossibly weightless, illogical, nonexistent. His work could've inspired a thousand runway collections.... he certainly would've inspired mine.

Spring Fling

I really like edgy fashion--dark lamé leggings with 4" YSL black oxford heels, a ripped up tee, a vintage black bikers jacket, dark eyes, mystery, dark rum.... but, I'm South American and once in a while my dark side is trounced by my genes, the genes that like pretty summery flirty boy-getting dresses. It happened when I saw Coleyclaire's Spring Collection....I transformed into a capricious, volatile, coy Spanish girl who wanted nothing more than to slip into one of their dresses and.... yeah... that kind of girl.

My new favorite BRUNCH destination. Ok Ok, maybe I'm biased, I LOVE Doughnuts, and as soon as I read "House Made Chocolate Ganache Doughnuts" I was ready to move into a cabinet in the kitchen and stuff my face with them for the rest of my life. I'll tell you about the rapturous doughnut experience, but first the main eats:

EGGS HUSSARDE crisp potato skins, poached eggs, merchand de vin sauce. It was delicious; the crispy potato skins are perfect to balance the impeccably poached eggs and delicious sauce (white wine, egg yolks in case you were wondering). The dish also has a couple strips of bacon on top, which really completed the flavor profile.

CROQUE MADAME mornay sauce, sunny side up farm egg, pomme frites. I don't know where they got the bread they used for this croquet madame, but it tasted like a buttery, creamy, crispy cloud. I would've liked a little more mornay sauce, but it was still delicious. The dish also has ham and it's great.

HOUSE MADE DOUGHNUTS chocolate ganache, lemon curd, sweet potato mousse. Ok. Let me get a hold of myself... I'm so excited just thinking about them. My pupils are dilated, my heart is beating fast, my tongue is delirious, it feels like Christmas morning =) wait, I'm Spanish, we don't have Christmas morning, Christmas Eve then, it feels like Christmas Eve when you see that heavenly plate of fried dough in front of you. It comes with a little mug filled with Hot Chocolate for you to dip your doughnuts into, it's so cute, and when you think it can't get any better, you break the doughnut in half and realize that........... Oh my God, it DOES get better!!! It's filled with stuff!!!! Creamy wonderful stuff, like chocolate ganache, lemon curd and sweet potato mousse (which tastes like pumpkin, my second favorite food). And alas, you find yourself in a state of ecstasy in the middle of the restaurant, not knowing how you'll be able to go on after this experience, how you'll be able to live and reside in a world of pastries, that after this one, will be sub par... at best.

Gap Design Editions

I went to Pentagon City Mall to see the Design collection for Gap (they're only available in stores in this area at Pentagon and Tysons). They had the collection at the front of the store in an area staged specially for it.

I really loved the Band of Outsiders Patchwork button down, it's like a boyfriend's button down, but this one actually fits your shoulders and it's extra long in the back so you could wear it as a dress in the Summer (my plan). All the small sizes were gone so I bought it online, but it looked really good in person, good quality, really good design.

I also really liked the Western Shirt by Michael Bastian, it looks much better in person than in pictures. The cutout dress by Three asFour also looked great, it has all these great little details, like the topstitching through the middle front and back of the dress that you can't really see in pictures. It's not really my type of dress, but it was adorable. Unfortunately I did not really love Phillip Lim's shirts :( the fit of them was not right on me, and although they did have pretty details, the design of them was a little too.... kakhi-pants-and-jcrew-flats for me. But I have dozens of items from him so I didn't feel like I cheated on him.

Citron Scents

I love Phillip Lim, I know I keep saying that but I do. The first time I saw his Spring 2008 collection I felt panic, good panic, the kind that makes you want to run out of your house and buy everything you see.... it was of course winter at the time and the clothes were not for sale yet, but you get the point.

Nylon magazine's spread on the girls from Gossip Girls has Blake Lively wearing one of his skirts, which looks brighter than I remember it (a good thing).

It prompted me to go back to his collection and make a collage of my favorite bright yellow items.

City of Trees

Yeah... I took them while I was driving, so what, I multi task.

It's one of my favorite places to photograph because the trees are so vertical that they almost disappear and they're almost exactly due West allowing the sun to set right through them. This specific day the sunset was specially haunting, almost lingering for too long right over the horizon letting you know that tomorrow would be really really warm.

Safari Inspired

Safari "chic" was a significant trend in runways for Spring 2008. Proenza Schouler's urban safari theme, Rag & Bone's slight safari touches throughout the collection, Phillip Lim's oversized safari cardigans and Dolce & Gabanna's pleated safari shorts, to name a few.

Many people have a hard time putting together a cohesive and tasteful look with safari inspired pieces. I think she does it perfectly, love the safari pleated shorts & belt and how she kept the rest of the ensemble simple with a white tank and riding boots and then back to safari with the oversize printed bag. I love riding boots in the early Spring, so she caught my attention from the start.

Seen in Urban Outfitters Georgetown

Sweaters and Sex

I'm really loving the way the mens collection is styled in the Buffalo David Bitton ads. I love the pretty boy / nerd / scum bag fusion. I know a boy who has been doing the cardigan/slim jean thing before most guys knew that a cardigan could belong on their body, and he does it savagely, I will try to photograph him when he comes back to this planet.

Love the hair, love the glasses, love the rolled up sleeves, don't love the jeans, why aren't they slim?

He looks like trouble, not the i-get-drunk-on-Tuesdays kinna trouble, but the..... mmmmmm.... yeah the other kind of trouble.

Love the cut-off sweatshirt sleeves, I know another boy who does this cut-off sleeve thing... well too well.....mmmm..... yeah.... too well.

Was he just doing what I think he was doing?

Love the plaid pants, I saw a 16-year-old boy in the Penn Quarter area the other day wearing a pair of red/black lumberjack plaid pants, he was awesome, if he hadn't been going so fast on his skate board I would've photographed him... did I mention he also had a thick gold chain with a 5 inch "BBC" charm on it? yeah..... he did....

Sweet Dirt

Dress: Jovovich-Hawk for Target
Shoes: Tretorn Hockeyboot
Belt: Vintage
Necklace: Belt from Banana Republic

5 in 1

I just impulsively bought these Nine West shoes (below), yeah, in yellow. They reminded me of the "Sometimes" Louboutins (also below) but 20x cheaper. They're a ridiculous combination of every shoe I own, an oxford, a bootie, a pump, a peep toe, and a sling-back. If they look tacky to you now, then you're crazy and you need to take the day off tomorrow to re-evaluate yourself, kidding, I know they look tacky, but they won't when I transform them with a fabulous outfit.... soon.

Zebras, leopards and elephants

Target GO. International Rogan Gregory entire collection is for view on Target's website. I like the animal prints done in unconventional colors. HATE the shoes they styled these outfits with, but I'm generally excited to see this in person. It will be carried early for 5 days at Barneys in Manhattan and Beverly Hills flagships on May 8th and 15th, respectively. Available at Target May 18th.

I'm really into rompers right now

This tank looks cute, I like the bright animal print. The pant is supposed to be leopard-print, which may be scary in person, but we'll see

I like this tank

I like this t-shirt, not a big fan of the shorts.

The Pope Wears Prada :)

See those red loafers... It hasn't been confirmed by the fashion house, but it's speculated that his loafers are Prada, and apparently his sunglasses are Gucci.... maybe a Band of Outsiders button down is next.

Elizabeth and James

I bet every fashionable girl (and possibly guy) has been inspired by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's downtown cool with uptown class androgynous style. The latest collection of their Elizabeth and James label is available at shopbop, actually none of the items I really like are available anywhere, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed, otherwise, reworked Goodwill sequin dresses will have to do.

These are a few of my favorites:

High Top Girls

I've been experimenting with this look in the past year, urban meets pretty girl, inspired by the urban kids in Washington DC, specially their sneakers and the loud colors they incorporate into their outfits. If you met me you would probably guess that I didn't own a pair of sneakers, and it would be an accurate guess until recently. But I do not wear them with jeans and a T-shirt, I wear them with pretty girly dresses. Pictures of this outfit will appear when the weather permits.

These were one of my first pairs, and although I didn't wear them very often in the Fall/Winter they are the pair of shoes that has hands down gotten more compliments than any other shoe I own, and I own many other very F*ing awesome shoes, but I guess they don't compete with the coolness of these:

Tretorn Hockeyboot Paninari
- Blue Moon/Mermaid

This is the pair that I originally wanted, but dammit, they are impossible to find in boys sizes, so for now I dream.

Nike Air Jordan 1 - Carolina Blue

I don't own these two, but they're awesome:

Vintage on U Street

Junction

(202) 483-0260
1510 U St Nw, #B, Washington, DC 20009

You can pretty much count me as a lifetime customer if I walk into your vintage clothing store and see 4 Saarinen Tulip-inspired chairs, I would be a lifetime customer if you had 1, so 4 of them certainly seals the deal. This is the first little vintage store I've been to in Washington DC that had an interior space design harmonious, balanced and quirky enough to be considered an actual boutique. Because to me, if a boutique specializes in stylish and one-of-a-kind offerings, it should have an interior to match, and Junction certainly does.

Their clothing collection consisted mostly of 60's and 70's inspired items with a small rack of children items, and some of them where a little bit overpriced, but I'm biased because I spend my weekends scouring flea markets in unspeakable suburban towns where everything is $1.50, otherwise I might have found is moderately priced. I bought two pieces, a cute little flower-collared cropped 70's jacket ($24) and a very big skirt with a lovely print ($5) that I will have my aunt cut up and create a masterpiece out of.
